Training & Consultation

As a trainer, I foster a learning environment which is welcoming and compliments the work you are already doing, provides concrete information and ideas for therapeutic interventions and facilitates room for exploring questions that arise within therapeutic work. The trainings encourage understanding of nuance in topics such as:

  • Exploring gender-based implicit provider bias

  • Understanding how to reduce gate keeping while providing assessments and gender affirming surgery support letters

  • Understanding complex grief and loss in 2SLGBTQIA+ communit(ies) *co-facilitated with Jen Brown, LICSW

As a consultant, I empower you to continue the work of meeting your clients’ needs. We will focus on clinical consultation, practical information, and specific feedback so that you and your team leave the discussion feeling more confident.

I specialize in providing peer-to-peer consultation for mental health and medical providers writing gender affirming surgery support letters (using WPATH SOC V. 8 as a guide).

Whether you’ve been working with a client for years, just a few weeks or months, at point of intake, or at a one-time meeting, it can be overwhelming and often raises a lot of questions and concerns of how to meet our clients’ needs while also navigating the expectations of the systems we work within.

For any provider, there may be internal dilemma over ethical practice and the gate keeping role.

For cisgender (non-trans) providers, there may be additional concerns over implicit bias in the role.

For trans, nonbinary and gender expansive providers, there may be additional concerns related to being in a gate keeping role while also holding lived experience.

    • Enhance your understanding of gender and its expansiveness.

    • Increase your nuanced understanding of navigating the medical system and supporting as well as advocating within the system for our clients to access their next step towards surgery.

    • Bring questions you may be holding and seeking clarification over gender affirming surgery letter assessment and writing process.

    • Receive guidance over what may feel like challenging situations, such as when clients may request multiple letters for different surgeries at once, weighing clinical considerations when there is discomfort in writing a letter and how to communicate about this with clients, addressing client concerns given anti-trans legislation and its impact on access to gender affirming surgeries, and using advocacy skills in confronting obstacles created by the medical and insurance systems to support clients receiving coverage for surgeries.

    • Identify and examine transferential issues and implicit bias related to our professional role and meeting clients’ needs for gender affirming surgery support letters.

    • Workshop your client assessment questionnaires for clinical documentation and record keeping.

    • Review and brainstorm ideas for agency protocols providing Gender Affirming Surgery support letter services and gain access to interview guides and letter templates.

I am open to discussing and developing a training or consultation service that works for you and your team!
